ENGLISH: We will be studying grammar and doing a good bit of writing. Often there will be writing assignments that are connected to the reading story/skills. The student may see the prompt for the assignment at the end of the story questions. It will be number five question. I will expect the student to answer the prompt on Thursday, when we take the Reading quiz. The paper needs to be turned in sometime that day. Tests-50%, Classwork/homework 30%, Quizzes 10%, Writing 10%.
SPELLING: We will take a pretest on the first day of the week. Anyone receiving 100% will be excused from the final Spelling test on Friday. However, they will still need to take the dictation section of the test. Spelling sentences and alphabetical order will also be assigned each week. The general content, other than using the spelling words for that week, will be the concept in English that we are studying, example helping verbs. 10x each of any misspelled word on Spelling pretests will be written on the back of the pretest paper . Other misspelled words found in written work will be written 10X each. The purpose of this is to encourage your student to consistently use a dictionary. The more often they check the dictionary, the less often they will have to write 10x each. No more that two Spelling list words are to be used in each sentence for the Spelling sentence assignment. On the first day of the week, I will return to your student the sentences and V&Q from the previous week. Dictation sentences will be counted as part of the final Spelling test. Tests 50%, Classwork/Homework 50%.
SCIENCE: Fourth grade Science covers life, physical and earth science. The homework is generally a lesson outline, finishing a lab or a lesson checkup. Usually lesson checkups are completed in class. Staying on top of vocabulary is encouraged, since several words (up to 15 or 20) are included on tests. We also carry out experiments in groups, demonstration or individual forms. Any papers without names will receive a zero.
Tests-50%, Classwork/Homework-40%, Lab-10%.
